Information Article about 9 Volt Rechargeable Battery Chargers
Here you will find reliable information about 9 volt battery chargers for your home, office, campground, school, church or other before purchasing them. We provide the fundamental information you need to be aware of in case you have little to no experience with this product.
First off, there are different types of 9 volt chargers. All will charge 9 volt batteries but not all in the same way. One kind is called a Timer controlled charger. This unit is a much less expensive choice than the higher-end Smart battery chargers, and here’s why: When you put in your 9 volt rechargeable battery or batteries (if it has multiple bays/compartments) for charge, the charging begins and will typically last anywhere from 8-10 hours, (depending on the model). This timer controlled unit will shut completely when it’s finished, let’s say at the 10 hour mark. It will do so regardless of whether or not the batteries are in a state of undercharged, overcharged, or perfectly charged. The Timer Control charger simply charges batteries continually for 10 hours, and then shuts off automatically. Be aware that with this type of charging technology, there is a risk that sometimes, batteries can swell up over this length of time, if they were well charged to begin with, and this will render that battery useless. It is an inexpensive way to recharge batteries, but for this convenience, one accepts the risk of potentially losing some batteries if they were more fully charged at the time they went in. Considering that rechargeable 9 volt batteries are NOT inexpensive, many opt for this type of charging technology and accept the wastage.
For those who don't mind spending a few extra dollars because they wish to fully protect their battery investment, we highly recommend using a 9 volt SMART battery charger.
This type of Smart Technology, accurately detects the remaining voltage left within each battery and stops charging individual batteries, individually, as full power has been restored to them. In other words, the unit doesn't just power off at a pre-determined 10 hour mark. Each battery stops receiving charge, at the time it is detected to be fully restored of its’ power.
As you can therefore see, you cannot compare a 9 volt Timer Controlled battery charger with a 9 volt Smart battery charger! Pricing for 9 volt Smart chargers, range from $30.00 - $90.00, depending on how many batteries they can hold at one time. The ones that have multiple bays, logically cost more than the single unit models.
