] C NiCD (Nickel Cadmium) Rechargeable Batteries C NiCD batteries are used for low-drain products, most notably in outdoor solar lights. They are 1.2 volt rechargeable cells. We offer our inventory of C NiCDs to you in mAh ratings between 1800 mAh to 3500 mAh. Solar Lighting for example, are actually perfect applications for C Nickel Cadmium Batteries because solar lights require only a little bit of power and C NiCDs are low in capacity – making them a good blend. Common applications for C NiCD batteries aside from solar lighting are: some children’s toys, remote controls, Radios, Flashlights, and Dive-lights, just to name a modest few. Some of the most notable features of C NiCD cells are: they can be rapidly charged, they offer reliable service, they can save you money over Alkaline (non rechargeable batteries), and can of course be placed into any product that uses C size Batteries. NiCD rechargeable batteries offer hundreds of charge cycles. A charge cycle is be described as the run-time a battery will deliver from full to empty on a single charge. A battery that provides hundreds of charge cycles can serve you for many years to come! All batteries self discharge. This simply means that they “leak” out power (leak is our ‘layman” term), when not in use. Simply sitting on the shelf (idle), some energy from the battery seeps out. In NiCD battery chemistry, the discharge rate is significantly slower than in NIMH batteries – another interesting feature that appeals to many. Their NiCD batteries therefore, will retain much of their total charge, for longer than NiMH. Should you only wish to use your NiCD batteries once in a while, you can be more assured that they will still have power remaining in them even if you haven’t picked one up off the shelf in months and months. Of course, it’s always a good idea to own a handy battery tester! This device can tell you in seconds, the strength of your batteries. Whether or not they should be charged (as in the case of rechargeable batteries) and whether or not they have any strength left in them at all, (as in the case of non-rechargeable batteries such as Alkaline or Lithium batteries). Note that non-rechargeable batteries are also called single-use, throw-away, and disposable. Here’s somewhat of a "drawback" that NiCD batteries have. It doesn’t have to be a drawback if you understand it and treat it accordingly. Here’s what we mean. While NiCD cells are cheaper in price than NIMH, they can experience (sustain) what is known as “memory effect”. Many people have heard the term here or there but might not be quite clear on what it means. Memory effect is result. It’s the result of charging a battery that has not fully been emptied of power first. In NiMH technology, this does NOT happen but in NiCD technology, it can. NiCD batteries must be “dead” at the time of charge so as to preserve the original, total energy capacity the battery was made with. If it’s charged before it’s dead, the battery “remembers” the new level of storage capability and this new level becomes the battery’s new total power capacity. To preserve the total run time 1 full charge cycle is mean to provide, always charge all NiCD batteries once they are completely empty.
